Who does nto want a microwave? Mmmeeee!

That is true, i don’t want a microwave because I don’t want to pay a lot for my electric bill. But I guess, I’m about to change my mind because of what I found out from Yahoo.

I can’t believe that these can be done on microwaves:

1. Cook fish - Cook a steak in the microwave and you’ll end up with shoe leather. Fish, on the other hand, can be cooked perfectly in the microwave. Simply wrap your fish in microwave-safe plastic with a little seasoning (salt and pepper and some lemon, perhaps) and cook for about 2 minutes on high. (The time for doneness will vary depending on the strength of your microwave and the size and shape of your fillet. Watch it closely to prevent overcooking.)

2. Sanitize your kitchen sponge - Sponges are a breeding ground for germs. It’s easy to just throw them away, but they’re not cheap, so extend the use of your sponge by zapping away harmful bacteria in your microwave daily! Just place your (wet) sponge in the microwave and nuke it for 2 minutes on High. That should be enough to kill 99% of the harmful bacteria that set up camp there.

3. Make potato chips - It’s hard to believe anything can get as crispy as a potato chip in the microwave, but believe it! Thinly sliced potatoes crisp up beautifully in the microwave (see the recipe below) and since these crispy chips aren’t fried, they’re healthier for you, too, with around 8 grams less fat per serving than regular chips. Who knew?

4. Steam vegetables - Put that annoying steamer basket away and cook your veggies in the microwave. Not only is it easier, but it’s better for you. The longer and hotter you cook a food, the more you’ll lose certain heat- and water-sensitive nutrients, especially vitamin C and thiamin - a B vitamin. Because microwave cooking often cooks foods more quickly, it can actually help to minimize nutrient losses.

5. Soften brown sugar - Ever go to make cookies and find your brown sugar is as hard as a rock? Put down your chisel, moisten some paper towels and place them on top of your brick of brown sugar. Microwave in 30-second increments and your brown sugar will loosen up. Crisis averted.

6. Cook bacon - No room for another pan on your stove to cook bacon in for breakfast? No worries. You can get crispy bacon in your microwave. (With less mess!) Cover a microwave-safe dish with a couple of paper towels. Add bacon in a single layer. Cover the bacon with a couple more paper towels and cook in 2-minute increments until crispy.

7. Use it as a proofer – Calling all bakers! Need a warm, moist place for your dough to rise? The microwave is the perfect place to set up a temporary proofer (for nonbakers, a proofer is a contraption that creates ideal conditions, i.e., warm and moist, for yeast breads to rise.) The sealed environment of your microwave will keep the moisture and heat in. Just heat a cup of water in your microwave until it’s steaming, then put your dough in along with it, shut the door and let it do its thing.

Yahoo.com was kind enough to share this recipe on how you make crispy potatoes with the use of your microwave.

Microwave Potato Chips   Active time: 30 minutes | Total: 30 minutes | To make ahead: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

You don’t need a deep fryer to make crispy potato chips. We toss thinly sliced potatoes with just a touch of olive oil, pop them in the microwave and voilà! Crispy, crunchy homemade potato chips with 8 grams less fat per serving than regular chips.

1 1/3 pounds Yukon Gold or red potatoes, unpeeled, scrubbed    2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil    1/2 teaspoon salt

1. Slice potatoes into thin (1/8-inch) rounds. Toss the slices in a medium bowl with oil and salt to coat evenly.    2. Coat a large microwave-proof plate with cooking spray. Arrange some potato slices in a single layer on the plate. Microwave, uncovered, on High until some slices start to brown, 2 to 3 minutes (depending on potato thickness and microwave power). Turn the slices over and continue microwaving until they start to crisp and brown around the edges, 2 to 4 minutes more. Check frequently and rearrange slices as needed to prevent scorching. Transfer the chips to another plate and allow to cool completely. (They will crisp more as they cool.) Repeat with the remaining potato slices.

Makes 4 servings, 12-14 chips each.    Per serving: 141 calories; 2 g fat (0 g sat, 2 g mono); 0 mg cholesterol; 26 g carbohydrate; 3 g protein; 2 g fiber; 291 mg sodium; 807 mg potassium.

Fancy Cufflinks

Cufflinks are a decorative fastener worn by men to two sides of the cuff they are wearing. It is sometimes regarded as some sort of jewelry that should be used in dressy shirts instead of buttons. Unique cufflinks may also be a status holder or some sort of identifier to a group. As an example, very large diamonds on can present an organized crime look to an ensemble. T-square kind of cufflinks are always popular with architects. There are also companies who would supply cufflinks to their employees as some sort of indicative affiliation. Cufflinks with Presidential seal symbolizes the status of who is wearing it.

By the way, no one really know where cufflinks started but according to history it was popularized by King charles II.

I just wanna share my experience a while ago. It happened in a jeepney routing from Santolan to Sta. Lucia East Mall. I’ve always looked for jeepneys with few people inside because I’m shy when I’m alone. This time I was going home alone (which happens once every 1,000 years) and my first instinct is to find the jeepney with the fewest boarder.
Outside the Santolan LRT Station waits a lot of jeepney, looking for the loneliest one. A couple of steps and Voila I found it, a poor little empty jeepney (HAHAHA). I sat beside the driver so that I can play my psp easily. Minutes pass and the jeepney is half full. I noticed that the driver is always rubbing his tummy (the same thing we do when we are hungry), but I don’t mind that, what happened next makes me care. The jeep is full and ready to go, so people paid their fares and the Jeepney driver said “Thank You” twice or thrice to each persons, AS IN PER PERSON, I was beside him so I noticed it and I think I was the only one who noticed him doing that. We got stuck in a traffic jam in Ligaya, that time and I have not given my fare yet because I was playing psp.
Curiosity striked so I asked him a question (besides he looks like a good guy) “Boss, bakit ka thank you ng thank you kanina pag may nagbabayad?” he answered “kasi itong mga baryang to ang bubuhay sa anak ko” I didn’t understand so I asked him again “May sakit boss?” Driver:”Oo anak meron, leukemia”
I stayed silent after I hearing that, I turned off the psp and look somewhere else because in other words e nakakaawa pero mas naawa ako lalo ng makita ko ang tatlong picture na naka clip sa left side mirror, right side mirror at yung mirror sa taas ng ulo ko. I know how to drive so that I know that you will always look in that mirrors every second while you are driving, ALWAYS. And now I know why he always rub his tummy. It makes my eye teary but I’m a man so I fight it ( ^_^ ). I get my fare, 100 pesos na buo and give it to him. “Boss Sta.Lucia lang, isa”, as soon as I gave the money he count some coins for my change and that same time I said “Hindi na boss ok lang kunin mo na po yan” sabay ngiti. And there again I hear the thousand thank you from him.
Not aware of the other passengers, may mga hindi pa pala nagbabayad. And after what I did they also gave their fares, 100 pesos, 200 pesos, 50 pesos and I also saw 500 pesos na mga buo, and they all gave that to him. I just smiled to them, turn on my psp and started playing again…
That completes my day… teary eyed here.. and ow the one in the picture is not him… I just want you to visualize it..

Ever wonder why your mobile signal’s gone along the route of black nazarene procession.   Well, this has been planned.   I found that out from the post of my friend blogger, Technobaboy.

Read more of his post here:

If you’re in an area that’s along the route of the Black Nazarene procession, you may have experienced signal loss on your mobile phones.  This was purposely done by the telcos in accordance with a directive from the government which cited security threats.

The government asked telcos to temporarily disconnect their services along the route of the Black Nazarene procession as a form of security measure.  President Aquino himself held an emergency press conference on Sunday saying that a local terrorist group may disrupt the procession.  Since cellular phones are one of the common triggers for explosives, the government thought it wise to disrupt the signal in areas covered by the procession.  These areas are mainly in Manila.

Globe Telecom, on its Facebook page, made this announcement in relation to the temporary signal disruption.

ADVISORY: In the interest of national security, please be informed that mobile subscribers of all telcos in certain areas ofManilawill experience temporary loss of signal due to security measures being conducted by the government in line with the feast of the Black Nazarene. Please stand by for more updates. Thank you.

Smart Communications, on the other hand, posted this on its Facebook page.

Smart Advisory: We have been briefed by the government regarding the security situation with respect to the Black Nazarene procession that is happening right now.

Based on that briefing, we are fully cooperating with the government in order to address the situation and have agreed to take certain precautionary measures to enhance public safety in and around the procession areas.

It  was only two years ago where most people have heard of the 2012 prediction that the world will end on 21st December 2012.  Possibly it was due to the spreading of news of the scholars who interpreted the ending of the Mayan calendar.

This Mayan calendar lasted for  5125 years and gives numbers of various interpretations.  One of the most famous is the abrupt ending of the humanity on December 21, 2012.

It is implied that this Mayan calendar is composed of many cycles. The cycle, or baktun, of the Mayan calendar is ongoing right now started on August 13, 3114 B.C.  It is important to note that each cycle marks the ending of the current period and start of  a new one.

This 13th baktun, according to Mayan’s, is regarded as one of the most important to them, and may possibly be the root of having a controversial interpretation to humans—2012  end of the world theory.

It is a fact that there is no specific scenario on how the world will end in 2012, however, studies have revealed that this 5125 year-calendar was created by the Mayan to correspond to astronomical prediction.  Given this idea, brings to a conclusion of the theory that the world end will be contributed by something beyond our world.

While things  going on outside of our world is not definite, it is a fact that the Mayan culture is greatly influenced with a  vast understanding of planetary alignments and astronomy.

On my way to the office, I was in deep pity of the two elderly women and  mother and  child riding the Jasper Jean passenger bus with me.  From the time I rode the bus, I noticed these two elderly women in front of me holding on the back seats nd arm chairs of the bus, no one bothered to offer seats to them.  There was also this thin lady with her one year old son she is carrying on her left  arm while she has her shoulder bag on her right arm that is holding the handrail.  As expected, no one bothered to offer a seat.

Imagine the bus that is this full, while most of the men passengers are comfortably seating either drowsing off or happily watching Eat Bulaga that is being aired on the bus.

I was able to take couple of pictures on the bus hoping that by writing this on my blog and facebook page, many people will be more sensitive in this kind of situation.  What is more bothering is that the signage saying that the front seat is dedicated to disable and elderly persons is not being followed.

To all of my friends who will see this on my blog and facebook page, I hope we can hit the share button either on facebook or below this article   to everyone until it catches the attention of bus operators including Jasper Jean and LTO and who ever is responsible in ensuring that seats designated to elderly and disable persons be given to them.  I also hope that we give priority to mothers  with small children to have a seat on every bus ride they take.

I wouldn’t mind male passengers not offering  seats to women standing on a bus  but its a different case for elderly and mothers with small children.  Even if its a father with a small child he is carrying with him, I would be glad to offer my seat.

Please share this to everyone and lets raise awareness regarding this matter.  Let us strive for bus operations to ensure their drivers and conductors be vigilant at all times.

Nothing To Do

I am at work right now, my shift starts at 3pm until 12mn, that’s from 8am to 5pm United Kingdom time.  Don’t get confused, I work here in the Philippines but  our office follows the working hours in UK.  Yes, you got it, we serve UK clients.

You maybe wondering, why I am blogging at the office. Well, kinda, its because the major system that I use to work is busted right now. The tool that I use to answer phone calls, log notes and save customer interactions  from the UK is not working. Our IT are still trying to fix it and I am just trying to find something productive for me to do, productive as far as I am concerned of course. The company would not want me using their resources just for nothing.

I wonder what time my system would be fixed.  By the way, its not only me who’s having something like this, same with Eliza, Dea and Ian.

Iped is much identical to the original Ipad of Apple. It only cost $105, compared to around $500 price of an original Ipad. According to Stan Schroeder of Mashable.com, its based on an Intel chip and has 128MB of RAM and 16GB of storage space.

Given the fact that Apple’s Ipad is not available in China there is a great chance for the product to penetrate the market. What do you think here in the Philippines, do you think it will?

Though some feedback I read says the video is not as fast as the original Ipad even if its intel driven. Also the 128mb of RAM is barely enough to power a calculator as mentioned at techi.com.
